We are a BHS affiliated bridleways group specifically aimed at promoting, preserving and where possible, improving access and highway safety, for the enjoyment of riders in West Northants
The BHS states that horse riders only have access to 22% of 117,000 miles of rights of way currently recorded - 5% of these are byways or restricted byways. The overall usage of this 22% is in truth probably much less, due to dead ends, busy roads, obstructions etc. Horse Riders are a relative minority group compared to walkers or cyclists, but the benefits of horse ownership are very important for promoting physical and mental health and wellbeing, strength and fitness. Many horse owners have mobility problems so it's an invaluable way of staying active and remaining connected to nature, thus the aim of this group is to help ensure inclusivity within the future scope of public rights of way etc.
